While I had one baby with me, and other babies in the cradle, I was working 12 hour shifts grinding floors and cutting off wallpaper. Ha! It was beginning to seem logical, however it was still far from being done. This was going take money, effort, and of course my favourite shopping experience to furnish this house. For my budget to remain intact, I went with my 3 boys looking for deals at estate sales. Every week, we would walk through estate and garage sales on Thursdays and Saturdays, purchasing a mix of old and new pieces. My next task was to spend my weekdays painting and sanding on our front lawn. My passion for restoration of furniture began when I saw a style similar to this. When our house was furnished, I still couldn't stop! I rented a booth on the local market, and sold pieces there. In the end, I had so many pieces I didn't think of a solution and my storage space was a mess. My home became a place in which I held open houses, where up to 1000 visitors could see the items on the first floor, and then purchase these items. Growing Days is the result of all this. Not only was my business thriving but I was growing our family of four. As a mom of a child I was able to strike the right way to be able to begin my own business and also be a good mother. Growing Days just seemed to be the right fit. Nora joined us in 2013 to be our fourth baby. My business's direction was fantastic, but I had to take some time off. I decided to take a break from making vintage furniture, and slowed down my pace to be at home to help my children. It was exactly what I was looking for at the time. Within a couple of months, the phone began to ring. A lot of people contacted me to ask for advice about home improvement or decorating. The majority of people who contacted me were from those who attended one of the furniture open houses. After a while, I took on clients in my own way. In no time, I was managing several accounts and a home remodeling business. If you had told me that my company would become the basis for a DIY Network show, I might have been astonished. When I look back, it makes me giggle.
