April Lockhart

April Lockhart was born on July 4th, 1995. In seventh grade she began playing guitar and piano lessons which ignited her passion for songwriting. April's first song was Different. She wrote it when she was 12 years old. The singer spent much of her time when she was 14 making songs and practicing music. The songwriting began with her dad and her dad in NY and LA within a short time. April began including other topics in the book, Take My Hand, for those of her peers who struggled with disabilities, peer pressure or suicide. Lockhart is a well-known lifestyle influencer as well as being a partner with clean-cut beauty brands Ilia, has built a large fan base. Since she was born without a left hand, she is an important part of herself. It's however not her entire story. Because of this, her Instagram account doesn't shy away from her disabilities, yet it's not focused on the issue neither. It's a reminder. The message? We have many different aspects, that our identity and physical self aren't as they seem. Lockhart is interviewed through video from Nashville. "I do not intend to let it define my personal life. I'm not looking to be merely known as a disability expert. This doesn't have any effect on my daily life. I conduct everything normally and I've found my own method of adjusting to things. It's also part of me and I feel it's important to talk about. Lockhart has been a great source of inspiration for her female friends regarding acceptance of oneself. Still, she acknowledges going through phases of being uncomfortable with her physique and being uncomfortable wearing some clothing types that exposed her arms. She wears whatever she wants and posts photos of herself wearing the clothes she picks out on social platforms. Self-love, according to her, is a process. "I do not think that you'll ever get in that place," she said. That's true of everyone regardless of how much they are afraid. The people you surround yourself with, who know you and see into your heart are the ones you should be relying on to remind you of what you're concerned about.
